Lanes & Linkages

Next time you run out of milk, instead of grabbing your car keys to drive to the shop, reach for a Way2Go Links brochure instead.

There are three links brochures with maps of Motueka, Richmond and Nelson showing pathway connections between neighborhoods.

Way2Go Regional Advisor, Glenis Bell, says the brochures are designed to make walking the preferred option.  "The maps show all the shortcuts, like alleyways or steps that you might not know exist around your neighborhood. Often, it's quicker to walk or cycle than it is to drive the car, find a park and then get where you want to go," saysGlenis.  "The maps give you a quick walk, with shortcuts to school, work or play."

Glenis says councils are adding walkways all the time so public feedback on the brochure is welcomed: "If you come across something that's different from what is on the map then let us know."

Visit www.way2go.org.nz for local contact details. Way2Go Links brochures are available at Nelson City and Tasman District Council offices, as well as the region's libraries.

In the Marlborough area there are "Walk the Withers" and "Picton by Foot or Bike" maps available from the District Council offices and I-sites. There are also plans for an on-road cycle map for Marlborough.
