Fruit Tree Planting - Action Plan
Fruit Tree Planting - Action Plan 2008
The following outlines the steps taken so far to get our project up and running. We hope that this will aid other community groups who want to initiate their own fruit tree planting project. As we have just started our project, it is still too early to say that this is the way to go to be successful. We are currently at stage 3 and planning to have a 5 minute hearing in front of the council in November to raise the awareness so we can hopefully plant the fruit trees in July 2009
1. Location:
Choose the site(s) in your community where you would like to plant the trees and photograph these.
Get in contact with Auckland City Council parks division through the call centre on 09 379 2020. Specify the park(s) or area of interest (e.g., parks near Mt. Eden village close to shops) and ask for direct communication with the parks adviser. Officers are geographically-based (ie., work in specific parts of town).
2. Get support:
Propose and get support for your project from local community groups:
Local community board members (they will send you an application form called SLIPs (Small Local Improvement Proposal form or download it from the website below). *

Business association
Existing Community groups
Gardeners
Schools
Kinder gartens
Transition towns
· SLIPs proposals are presented to community boards twice monthly. The board then decides whether or not it will support a proposal. If the board is in support, the proposal goes off to officers to agree that the proposal is something that meets council's policies etc. Following this, it comes back to the board for them to agree to the proposal proceeding to scoping/costing. Once costed, it returns to the board for funding. The whole process can take 6 months.
3. Fill out the SLIP form and send it to your community board if you want to apply for funding
4. Prepare Presentation:
Prepare a 5 min presentation for the Auckland City Council, you will find the dates for your presentation on:
